Ours is a Team Sport. The team is stronger than any one individual. You are made stronger by the team you surround yourself with, so be sure to surround yourself with better and different people than you. The team around us is our strength and it should be yours.
Clients First. Never forget that the consulting and service industry business is about serving clients. Make sure you wake up every day thinking of your clients. Don’t make every meeting a business meeting; take time to shoot the breeze and socialise. Client relationships are exactly that: relationships – not transactions.
Do what you do well, and you will do well. Take every job and role that comes along as a new challenge to prove yourself. Don’t be afraid to move to different roles to gain different experiences. Allow your career to advance by demonstrating that you can always deliver good results for your clients and the company, whatever you are doing.
Think straight, talk straight. People often come to me with client problems asking for advice in what they should say to their client. Always to be direct and transparent and tell it the way it is. No gloss. No spin. And the same goes for leadership. Be direct and transparent with your team and you will earn their respect and trust.
Change to be more successful. The future always comes faster than we expect, and we need to continue to change to be more successful. This applies to the organisation and to each of us individually. You need to change to stay ahead of your clients and competition with each emerging technology and business trend. Keep on learning and keep on changing. Change is what shall energise us.
